From the outset, Observant Pty Ltd has been focused on the unique needs of Australia, and sought to develop a cost-effective, robust, remote management system which would reliably overcome the costly travel associated with checking water and animal movements.
The founding team – Gino Garbellini, Simon Holmes à Court and Matthew Pryor – brought together a wealth of experience from the pastoral sector, the business world, software and electronics, to rewrite the book on remote management. Commercial trials began in 2003 as part of the northern Australian ‘Pigeon Hole Project’ (a jointly funded $5.4 million Heytesbury and MLA project), which saw the validation of the Observant system across a 300 km2 site. Working with the manufacturers of agricultural equipment to add value to remote monitoring, Observant has teamed with Mono Pumps, Flownetix, Maxon Australia, Allflex, Yanmar, Nutridose, Norprim, Pakton, Tru-Test, and Axis Digital Camera's to ensure their products are Observant ready, which truly allows a “plug and play” installation procedure of the Observant system. The Observant team remains focused on delivering robust tools to aid in the management of remote infrastructure, and is dedicated to reducing operating costs and maximising productivity. Observant continues to work with project partners to highlight the real dollar savings gained through remote monitoring. A 2008 WaterSmart Pastoral Production™ project revealed that pastoralists made annual savings of around $25 000 in fuel associated with monitoring water in Northern Australia. And with the continual expansion of the Observant system across these areas, these savings with continue to increase. Observant strives to produce the most integrated and compatible remote management system on the market. Where you have unique needs, the Observant system can be tailored to support those requirements.
