As water flows into the lower lakes of the Murray and Coorong wetlands, Observant has partnered with the Department for Water South Australia and the ACF to raise awareness of the transformation. Dried, drought effected wetlands are again refilling and remote cameras are providing hourly photos of sites at the key sites of Hunter’s Creek, Narrung and Loveday Bay capturing water flows and wildlife.
The cameras are solar powered and utilise 3G technology to transmit the images to Observant’s Managed Service to be publicly shared, near real time, on the Department for Water SA and ACF’s website. An interested public can see what is actually happening around the lower Murray wetlands.
SA Murray-Darling Basin NRM ecologist and ranger staff have self-installed Observant’s remote monitoring technology. This system has been continually monitoring the wetlands for 3 months. Timelapse videos collated from these images shows longer term trends and how adding water to these wetland systems quickly transforms them.
